Being a Trip Initiator (AKA BATI)
Tired of sitting in your dorm room twiddling your thumbs? The OP doesn't have what you're looking for? Are you an adventurer? Make stuff up on your own? Have a *brilliant* idea? OK, well, there is a solution: Become a trip initiator.
An Outdoor Program Trip Initiator (AKA TI) is a student of Southern Oregon University who wishes to organize any type of outdoor trip through the Outdoor Program.
Anyone can become a TI. The beauty of initiating a trip through the Outdoor Program is that the gear and expertise for most trips is available at the Outdoor Program. Whether you are running class V rivers or simply going on a hike with friends, we have the information and equipment to make your trip successful. The initiator's job is to essentially get the ball rolling and then facilitate communication between trip participants.
In Short:
TI's contact the Outdoor Program about a trip they are interested in doing (that isn't on our calendar). Having multiple people interested in your trip is a plus and will help get the trip on the calendar. For instance, if you and five friends want to do a bungee jumping trip, you would contact the OP and we would work with you on dates, transportation, and price. The trip would then be put on the calendar and advertised through the Outdoor Program.
Why is this a good deal?
This is a great deal for students because... 1) you get to decide your own trip. 2) it is likely that your buddies want to go with you (good company). 3) if it involves rentals (like boats), the rental price is discounted. 4) our guides will make the trip safe and fun. In other words, you are not responsible for the safety or liable for your buddies or anyone else who goes on the trip. Essentially, bring us your idea and we'll do the rest.
How do I get my trip on the calendar?
Simple. Click here for the TI form and drop it off at our office in the McNeal Pavilion 2-6 PM Monday through Friday.
